MINOPEX
Minopex operates and maintains a total of 20 mineral processing plants in Africa. Of these, six are PGM and chromite concentrator facilities; Kroondal 1, Kroondal 2, Baobab, Booysendal, Mogalakwena, Volclay (chromite) whilst Blue Ridge, Everest and Marikana have been placed on care and maintenance. Nine are coal processing facilities Phola, Hakhano, Keaton 2 & 4 and 5 seam, Vaalkrantz, Liketh and Vele. Riversdale, and Chirodzi are operated by Minopex Mozambique. Three are diamond processing plants; Letseng Diamonds and Liqhobong while Storm Mountain is operated by Minopex Lesotho and Karowe Mine by Minopex Botswana.
In addition, the Shanta Gold plant is operated by Minopex in Tanzania.
By handing over certain aspects of the processing function to Minopex, new mines can reduce up-front capital costs on equipment and engineering facilities, and operating mines can minimise operating costs. In addition, Minopex is able to guarantee continuity of production, has the flexibility to manage exceptional conditions and is able to remain focused on the specifics of the operation under its control to ensure that it achieves the financial and quality goals of the contract.
